Rosa Parks died last week, and her body is now lying in state in the US Capitol. This is a great honor for a great woman.
I just feel like we should also remember the thousands of others who fought for civil rights and never got the publicity she did. I think about the films of people being blown over by firehoses and attacked by police dogs (in Birmingham?). None of them will be honored in the Capitol or noticed in the news.
It's a good thing that Rosa Parks is being honored. It's also worth remembering that there are many others who would be worthy of that honor if only we knew who they were.
